Frequently Asked Questions
Hiring offshore can feel like a big step, especially if it is your first time. This page gives you clear, honest answers to the questions we hear from nearly every client.
What is Talent Match Africa and how does the model work?
Talent Match Africa (TMA) connects businesses in the UK, US, and Australia with skilled professionals in South Africa and Kenya. Unlike freelance platforms or traditional BPO outsourcing, we employ professionals directly and place them exclusively with your business. We handle payroll, compliance, contracts and HR, while your team manages the day-to-day work. The result is offshore talent that feels like a natural extension of your team.
What makes TMA different from traditional outsourcing or freelance platforms?
We are not a BPO and we are not a marketplace. The difference:
- Long-term team integration, not short-term task outsourcing
- Office-based professionals in secure, access-controlled environments, not home offices
- Real oversight, coaching and performance support, not just placement
- You control the work; we support performance behind the scenes
- One invoice, full employment compliance, no contractor risk
Businesses typically save 40–60% compared to equivalent local hires in the UK, US, or Australia.
What roles and industries do you support?
We work across financial services, technology, media, e-commerce, professional services, healthcare administration and logistics. Roles we regularly place include:
- Finance and accounting: AP, AR, management accounting, FP&A, CFO-level
- Engineering and technology: software developers, QA, DevOps, data analysts
- Operations and customer success: customer service, operations managers, project coordinators
- Business development, SEO, digital marketing, and administrative support
We also place senior and leadership-level roles including Finance Directors, Senior Engineers and Operations Leads. If you have a specialised requirement, we are happy to discuss it.
How much does it cost, and how does it compare to local hiring?
Pricing is fixed monthly based on role and seniority. Most placements range from USD $2,000–$5,500/month, inclusive of salary, office space, equipment, productivity tools and ongoing support.
- Finance professionals: $2,500–$4,500/month+
- Engineering roles: $3,000–$5,500/month
- Operations and customer-facing roles: $2,000–$3,500/month
This typically represents a 40–60% saving versus an equivalent hire in the UK, US, or Australia without sacrificing quality, continuity or collaboration.
How does TMA compare to traditional outsourcing on total cost?
Traditional outsourcers often look cheaper upfront, but the true cost is higher. Common hidden costs include 40–50% annual attrition, weeks of retraining per departure, repeated context loss, and 2–3% error rates from task-based handoffs. There is also no incentive for process improvement.
TMA pricing is slightly higher per person, but you get continuity, institutional knowledge and process improvement built in. One client moved accounts payable from a traditional vendor at $180k/month with three rotating people and 3–4% error rates, to the same cost with one dedicated TMA professional, 0.2% error rates, and quarterly process improvements.
Do you offer volume pricing?
Yes. Companies hiring 5+ professionals receive tiered pricing. Companies hiring 10+ are eligible for dedicated partnership structures with custom SLAs. Most clients start with 1–2 hires to validate the model, then scale within six months.
How long does it take to hire?
It depends on the talent available in our database and how quickly the client wants to move. We have placed professionals in as little as 48 hours. A typical end-to-end placement runs 4–6 weeks:
- Week 1: Role definition and requirements
- Weeks 2–3: Candidate sourcing and screening (we present 3–5 qualified profiles)
- Week 4: Interviews and reference checks
- Weeks 5–6: Offer, background verification, onboarding
Some clients move fast; others take longer to reach a final decision. We adapt to your pace. We respond to all client enquiries within the same business day.
How do you vet candidates?
Every candidate goes through:
- Skills assessment: certifications (CA, CPA, ACCA), technical skills, and relevant experience verified
- Background check: employment history and educational credentials verified through local authorities
- Cultural fit assessment: communication style, work habits and professional values evaluated against your team
- In-person interviews, ID and right-to-work checks
We present 3–5 shortlisted candidates. You conduct the interviews and make the final hiring decision.
What does onboarding look like?
We run a two-part process. First, we onboard the team member into TMA: systems setup, professional standards and expectations. Then we onboard them into your business: role clarity, tools, workflows and day-one expectations. We can also help structure 30, 60 and 90-day plans.
We prepare your internal team too by setting communication expectations, advising on how to introduce the new team member, and providing guidance on managing across time zones.
What does good look like in the first 90 days?
- Days 1–30: Reliable attendance, clear role understanding, early relationship-building, completing defined tasks with support
- Days 31–60: Growing independence, improving speed and confidence, consistent delivery against agreed standards
- Days 61–90: Ownership of recurring responsibilities, dependable quality, growing trust, often suggesting improvements and managing workflows independently
How will we manage our TMA team members day-to-day?
In practice, it feels no different to managing a local remote team member. Your team member uses your existing tools like Slack, Teams, Zoom, Asana, Jira, and joins your standing meetings and project workflows from day one. You manage the work and priorities; TMA handles the employment and HR layer.
We recommend daily check-ins in the early stages. Most clients move to a weekly rhythm once the team member is settled.
What time-zone coverage can we expect?
South Africa (GMT+2) overlaps almost entirely with UK business hours and has a 5–8 hour overlap with the US East Coast. Kenya (GMT+3) provides similar coverage. In practice, your TMA professional can attend morning stand-ups, respond in real time, and collaborate synchronously with your team.
Working hours are agreed during onboarding and can be structured for full overlap, partial overlap, or independent coverage depending on the role.
How do you ensure productivity and visibility?
We use Insightful to track attendance, time worked and productivity, configured around the role rather than a generic standard. Reports are available to you at any time. We position this as a support tool that focused on outcomes, not surveillance, creating accountability without micromanagement.
What happens if performance is not where it should be?
We identify the gap, coach or retrain, and realign expectations. If the fit is not right, we move quickly. We offer a 30-day replacement guarantee: if the placement does not work out within the first 30 days, we replace the professional at no additional cost. Our retention rate after 30 days is 95%, so this is rarely needed.
Who employs the team member, and what does the contract look like?
TMA is the employer of record. We handle payroll, tax, compliance and all HR processes. You sign a services agreement with TMA, so you do not take on employment risk. TMA professionals are employed by Talent Match Africa, a registered South African company, working from our office hubs in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Nairobi. This means no employment law complications for you, no visa or work permit requirements for them.
How do you handle data security, IP protection and compliance?
Security and IP protection are built into our contracts and operations:
- Confidentiality and IP assignment clauses in all employment contracts — all work product belongs to the client
- NDAs and non-compete clauses, enforceable under South African law
- Secure, access-controlled office environments with biometric entry
- GDPR-compliant data processing under a Data Processing Agreement
- POPIA-compliant processes under South Africa’s data protection framework
- Additional controls available including VPNs and enhanced confidentiality agreements
Many of our finance professionals handle data subject to SOX, GDPR and other regulated frameworks.
How is leave, sick leave and public holidays managed?
All leave is managed in line with South African and Kenyan labour law. We use a centralised leave management system where team members submit requests formally and you receive notifications and can approve directly. We can also align your team member to your country’s public holidays if preferred.
What support do we get, and how flexible is the arrangement?
You have a dedicated TMA account manager as your primary contact for any concern. Operations Managers and Hub Supervisors support both you and your team members throughout the engagement.
Commercially, we offer a 14-day initial period with immediate exit, then a 60-day notice period thereafter. You can scale, replace or adjust roles as your business evolves. If your needs change and you want to bring a team member in-house, we can discuss transition terms openly.
